How to use Subtitle Converter
- Open or paste an SRT or VTT subtitle file. Use UTF-8 text, up to 2 MB and 10,000 cues.
- Choose WebVTT for web captions, SRT for compatible editors, or TXT for a transcript.
- Convert, inspect the preview and download your result.
When this helps
Prepare web captions from an editor’s SRT export, convert WebVTT into SRT for another editing step, or extract dialogue for notes. This tool converts existing captions; it does not transcribe audio.
What to know before you start
Exports basic text and timing. Styling tags, positions, cue identifiers, comments and VTT CSS are omitted. Plain text output omits timestamps. Use Subtitle Sync instead when you need to retain VTT metadata while adjusting time.
Frequently asked questions
Does conversion preserve timing?
SRT and VTT exports retain each cue’s start and end times with millisecond precision. TXT exports only the text.
Will all styling be retained?
No. This converter intentionally creates basic text captions. Layout, styles and metadata are not carried over.
Can it create subtitles from a video?
No. It requires an existing subtitle file. Transcription and subtitle conversion are different tasks.
