Find a useful practice tempo

  1. Choose a clear, percussive section of a recording and set a plausible BPM range.
  2. Detect its repeating pattern, then compare the half-time and double-time choices.
  3. Use the practice button to open the metronome, or open Audio Looper to slow down a passage.

For music with an unclear pulse, tap the beat yourself. The analysis never uploads your recording.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the BPM estimate?

This is an onset-pattern estimate, not a guaranteed musical tempo. Complex rhythms, beat changes and ambient recordings can produce ambiguous results. Check the half-time and double-time choices by ear.

What audio can I analyze?

Choose a browser-decodable file up to 100 MB and 15 minutes, with at least six seconds of a steady beat. The analysis uses the first 120 seconds and both stereo channels.

Can I find BPM without uploading a file?

Yes. Tap Tempo at least three times with a steady beat. Open the practice link to hear the rounded BPM in the metronome.

What does pattern strength mean?

It describes how strongly the audio’s onset pattern repeats. It is not a probability that the BPM is correct. Silence or an unstable pattern may produce no estimate.
